I don’t know about you, but by the time Thursday night rolls around, we’re more than ready for the weekend. Thursday nights have been date night with the guys, simply because we’re ready for a nice dinner out and a few drinks…and let’s be honest, ready to start the weekend a little early! Since the weather was so crazy (and cooold) last week in Atlanta, we decided to make a few tasty cocktails at home.
What makes them fancy (and so good)? Well for this recipe, it’s the simple syrup. This is SO easy to make, and it really takes your drinks to the next level. Plus, your options are unlimited. Start with 1 part granulated sugar and 1 part water.
Then add whatever fresh herbs, fruits, or flavoring your heart desires! I made a ginger simple syrup by chopping some fresh ginger and adding it to my sugar mixture. Bring to a boil over medium heat and let boil for a 5 min so that the ginger can release its flavor. Then turn off heat and let steep for about 10 minutes.
Let cool, strain, and put into a closed container to keep in the fridge for 2-3 weeks.
Now on to the fun part, the drink! I used mine to make a ginger spiced margarita.
Ginger Simple Syrup:
-1 cup water
-1 cup granulated sugar
-2” fresh ginger root, peeled and roughly chopped
Ginger Lime Margarita: (makes 2 drinks)
-4 Oz Tequila
-3 Oz Triple Sec or Grand Marnier
-6 Oz Fresh Lime Juice
-3 Oz Ginger Simple Syrup
*Little tip: Just use the shot glass to measure everything, it’s usually 1.5 Oz and means less cleanup.
Shake all together and pour over ice. Enjoy!
